THE ROLE

The Chief Medical Officer for Kadlec Regional Medical Center is an advocate for the patient in the pursuit of delivering quality care when such care is initiated in or delivered predominantly within the acute care ministry. This position is responsible for implementing key integration strategies and clinical programs to achieve organizational strategic priorities and to meet the needs of the community. Provides leadership in evaluating and identifying opportunities for improvement to achieve superior outcomes in clinical services, leads and manages quality and performance using organizational, developmental and management skills, the Chief Medical Officer provides vision and leadership and ensures provider integration within Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Within a dyad leadership structure with the Chief Nursing Officer, the Chief Medical Officer has responsibility for Kadlec's clinical quality, physician practice issues, and the day-to-day operations. Through the development of successful performance improvements, standards and practices, the Chief Medical Officer is responsible for achieving the goals, objectives and long-term strategic plans at Kadlec Regional Medical Center.

The Chief Medical Officer is a member of the Southeast Washington Executive Team and, in collaboration with this group, coordinates, develops and grows Kadlec to enhance access and quality of services available to the communities we serve. Performs all duties in a manner which promotes the Providence mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, the incumbent serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • In addition to hospital responsibilities at KRMC, partners across the care-continuum to improve care in our service area.

  • Drives strong and regular communication on key operational and strategic topics among administration (SEWA executive team), physicians, and other clinical leaders to ensure clinician input is routinely incorporated into strategic decision making.

  • Provides physician executive oversight for hospital quality, patient safety, clinical program development.

  • Partners with Chief of Staff and Medical Staff Office to provide leadership and support for medical staff affairs.

  • Leads communication on matters of clinical quality and medical staff affairs with the Community Mission Board.

  • Partners with Kadlec Medical Group CMO and others as appropriate to lead development of physician and APP leaders and leadership structure for Kadlec and SEWA.

  • Proactively seeks opportunities to improve access and care through collaboration and integration efforts across SEWA.

  • Key executive leader for local implementation of division and system quality initiatives.

  • Champions, encourages, and empowers others to innovate to deliver on the healthcare quadruple aim (improve health, improve patient experience, improve value, improve caregiver engagement).

  • Models and holds team accountability to high reliability and just culture concepts; fosters an environment of psychological safety for all.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Health Administration or Business Administration; or equivalent educ/experience.

  • Medical Degree and completion of an accredited residency program.

  • Upon hire: Washington Physician Osteopathic License (Vendor Managed); or Washington Physician Osteopathic Limited License (Vendor Managed); or Washington Physician License (Vendor Managed).

  • Upon hire: Active Board certification in area of clinical practice.

  • Certification in Health Care Management.

  • 5 years of previous demonstrated leadership in medical staff leadership roles.

  • 10 or more years of clinical practice.

  • 5 years of progressive executive management experience in a group practice setting in a multispecialty group practice.

  • Track record of successful leadership experience in a complex, integrated healthcare delivery system.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.

  • Ability to relate credibly to physicians, executive leaders, board members, frontline caregivers, and diverse stakeholder groups of many types.

  • Strong understanding of clinical applications for evolving technology, and ability to leverage technology and data to drive understanding and improvements.

  • Deep understanding of and commitment to supporting clinical practice, quality, and safety standards.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare policy, economics, regulation, and the impacts on health system operations and strategy; experience navigating the tensions created by these forces.

  • Empathic approach to colleagues and stakeholders, and a track record of success leading and managing teams through change.

  • Ability to work effectively through influence in highly matrixed environments.

  • Capacity to foster a culture focused on performance, value, and reduced care variation.

  • Ability to align and motivate teams around strategic initiatives.

  • Proactive and visible leadership style, committed to driving positive outcomes in healthcare delivery.
