Shift Details: Per Diem - On Call

A Community Instructor under the general direction of the Supervisor, Training Center, conducts classes in childbirth preparation, good babysitting, poison prevention, Basic Life Support (BLS) & CPR, Management of Aggressive Behavior, and related courses and performs related duties as assigned.

In this position you will:

• Demonstrate and sustain compliance with the Caregiver Expectations Standards of Excellence and Code of Conduct.

• Assess the participants' level of understanding and adapts instruction to the best advantage for the participants.

• Demonstrate the ability to respond in a sensitive and constructive manner to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of others.

• Participate in the development and updating of class outlines and content to assure the information provided is current and thorough and conducts classes following approved outline.

• Keep abreast of current trends and methods through meetings and reading pertinent material.

• Attend required meetings.

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate education to the age of students/patients served as outlined in established procedures.

• Adhere to standard policies as outlined in department related to infection control, fire and safety, hazardous chemicals, personnel policies and departmental procedures.

• In addition to the above, position specific:

• Community Instructor-Childbirth:

• Conduct classes in childbirth education for prospective mothers and their partners covering subjects from pregnancy, labor and delivery, to breast and bottle-feeding and care of newborns.

• Utilize a variety of teaching techniques such as visual aids, charts, lectures and physical demonstrations of breathing patterns and relaxation skills.

• Observe a minimum of one birth in the Labor and Delivery Unit on an annual basis as assigned.

• Conduct one or more childbirth-related classes such as the refresher courses.

• Community Instructor-Babysitting:

• Conduct classes to adolescents and children (Good Babysitting and Poison Prevention) at Kadlec and within community.

• Community Instructor-HealthCare Provider:

• Conduct classes to Kadlec staff and community health care professionals by teaching Health Care Provider CPR and other AHA courses.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • 1 year teaching experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or training experience.

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card OR Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor card required.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Certified Childbirth Educator preferred. With appropriate experience, the instructor’s Certification can be obtained within the first year of instructing.

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
