Kadlec Clinic has an exciting opportunity for an Registered Nurse (RN) ASC OR to join our growing Orthopedic Surgery Center team located in Richland, Washington.

Shift Details: Full-Time, 1.0, 40 Hour Day Shift

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program

  • 1 year recent operating room experience –or-successful completion of a Peri-Operative Program

  • Current WA State RN Licensure

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS

  • ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire into the position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN from an accredited nursing program

  • Certification in related specialty area

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under the direction of the ASC Manager, has direct responsibility and accountability for the care of the patient during the intraoperative phase of surgery and endoscopic procedures; Utilizes the nursing process to provide comprehensive nursing care Peri-Operative phase; Coordinates total patient care in coordination with other health care team members; Functions as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient's Rights; Demonstrates professional growth and development by accepting responsibility and accountability for one's nursing practice; Serves as a liaison between physicians, staff, patients and their families to facilitate safe and effective flow of patient care in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Kadlec Regional Medical Center; and assists in providing direction of support staff.

  • Act as a resource to staff, physicians, and visitors.

  • Verify the operative procedure using the consent form, patient’s statement, associated orders and ,if needed, the surgeon’s verification prior to procedure.

  • Note the condition of the skin for rashes, bruises, lesions and previous incisions.

  • Determine mobility of the body utilizing the patient’s statement, range of motion, and the history & physical.

  • Report deviation of diagnostic studies such as lab or radiology reports.

  • Communicate and document degree of achievement to members of the health care team, in a verbal and written report.

  • Continuously evaluate the patient’s needs, plan of care, and nursing actions, adjusting the plan as required to provide optimum patient outcomes consistent with professional practice.

  • Identify presence of prosthesis such as dentures, pacemakers and joint prosthesis/implants.

  • Note nutritional status such as patient has been NPO.

  • Verify allergies to medication, food, or chemicals.

  • Communicate and documents physiological data to other members of the health care team in verbal or written report, including data which may be relevant to discharge planning.

  • Elicit patient expectations of care and outcome of surgery.

  • Determine level of knowledge and ability to understand, such as language barrier and seeks assistance as necessary.

  • Identify philosophical, religious and cultural beliefs concerning the intraoperative phase, such as blood transfusions, disposition of limbs, and sacraments.

  • Provide positioning aids during the intra-operative phase to prevent skin breakdown or impairment of the nervous or vascular system.

  • Provide equipment to insure patient safety in regards to the use of electro cautery or laser during the procedure.

  • Coordinate use of supplies and equipment for intraoperative care.

  • Organize nursing activities in logical sequence, prioritizing nursing duties.

  • Coordinate patient care needs with other members of the health care team.

  • Assign activities to appropriate personnel based on their qualifications and the patient needs.

  • Maintain required certifications (BLS/ACLS) and performs effectively in an emergency situation.

  • Confirm the patient’s identity using the ID bracelet and verbal conformation from the patient/family.

  • Provide emotional needs during transport.

  • Communicate and documents method of transport.

  • Participate in pre-operative teaching as needed, such as explanation of surgical routine and environment.

  • Communicate and document patient/family teaching.

  • Use principles of aseptic technique in varying situations, such as infection control practices, skin preps, hand washing, demonstrating knowledge of clean vs. sterile.

  • Adhere to dress code policy for peri-operative areas.

  • Monitor suite to insure that movement around the sterile field is appropriate at all times.

  • Anticipate needed equipment and supplies, utilizing the surgeon preference lists.

  • Perform sponge and needles counts.

  • Anticipate needed equipment and supplies.

  • Select equipment and supplies in an organized, timely and cost effective manner.

  • Assure all equipment is functioning before use.

  • Operate mechanical, electrical and powered equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions and the centers policy.

  • Administer drugs and solutions as prescribed.

  • Use age related concepts, body size and preexisting conditions in implementing the plan of care as demonstrated by adjusting medications and responding to laboratory results.

  • Communicate and document administration of medications and solutions according to policy, including medication errors.

  • Control the environment in the Pre/Post areas to provide ultimate patient care, such as temperature of room, sensory stimuli, and traffic and noise level.

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Adhere to sanitation policies for infection control including confine and contain waste disposal.

  • Demonstrate awareness and practices according to the Patient’s Bill of Rights and the Center’s policies.

  • Provide for patient safety and maintains patient confidentiality.

  • Communicate and document provisions for patient’s rights as appropriate.

  • Perform nursing actions that demonstrates accountability.

  • Exercise safe judgment in decision-making.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in nursing practice.

  • Respond in a positive manner to constructive criticism or recommendations for improvement.

  • Demonstrate tact, understanding, and good guest relations when dealing with patients, visitors, physicians, and team members.

  • Practice within ethical and legal guidelines.

  • Communication and document nursing actions.

  • Develop outcome criteria and measures degree of achievement.

  • Participate in the orientation of new employees.

  • Attend department staff meetings, and educational opportunities.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of the Center.

  • Follow AORN Recommended Practices and the Center’s policies at all times.

  • Demonstrate on an annual basis required competencies pertaining to job responsibilities.

  • Perform a variety of routine clerical functions as necessary.

  • Perform within limitations or scope of WA State RN Licensure.
