Kadlec Surgical Manager - Surgical Unit in Richland, Washington


Kadlec Regional Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a Manager Unit to join our growing Surgical Unit team located in Richland, Washington!

Shift Details: Full-time, 1.0 FTE. 8 hour day shift.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

  • Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing or higher from an Accredited educational institution, or Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing or higher in progress. If Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing or higher is in progress, must be completed within three years from date of hire into the position.

  • Current WA State RN Licensure.

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.

  • 2 years in recent experience in area of specialty.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous management experience.

  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under the general direction of the VP Nursing, remains responsible for the day-to-day operation of the nursing unit; Ensures quality patient care by establishing and maintaining clinical standards of practice and care while meeting unit staffing requirements; Assesses plan and evaluates the unit orientation and education requirements and assure that they are met; Remains responsible for the annual budget preparation including operational and capital items; Assures that hospital policies and procedures are updated and participates and coordinates unit and organizational quality improvement activities; Keeps current in Clinical issues and trends; Appropriately intervenes in patient, family, and physician issues in a timely manner; Supports and demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Kadlec Regional Medical Center.

  • Demonstrate and sustain compliance with Kadlec Caregiver Expectations Standard of Excellence and Code of Conduct.

  • Understands, embraces, and instills Kadlec’s Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Maintains a Caring Reliably environment and utilizes daily management system tools.

  • Establishes, promotes, and implements patient care standards based on the nursing process and current nursing research.

  • Utilizes available resources (Clinical Education Department, Internet etc.) for state-of-the-art nursing practice and education.

  • Ensures that a monthly staffing schedule is completed and posted based on appropriate levels of 24 hours staffing according to acuity, census and, as possible, staff requests.

  • Communicates regularly with the VP Nursing or designee that involve staff issues, critical patient care concerns, unit staffing changes, quality issues, and other pertinent data.

  • Maintains unit process system for appropriate supplies and equipment management. Identifies and establishes PAR levels and cost-effective supply/equipment use. Follows guidelines for proper equipment maintenance, repair, and reporting.

  • Collaborates with Human Resources on personnel issues including completing requisitions, interviewing, hiring, and following hospital policy on constructive counseling and progressive discipline.

  • Assures that all staff attends required competency education programs and continuing education offerings pertinent to area, time, and budget constraints.

  • Utilizes staff and physician input for yearly performance evaluations.

  • Identifies learning needs of staff and collaborates with individual on developing employee development plans.

  • Provides various opportunities for communication inter- and intra-departmentally including, but not limited to monthly staff meetings, contributions to the newsletter, postings, journals, etc.

  • Supports hospital wide functions through committee attendance and/or delegation for quality improvement activities, policy and procedure development and updates, program development, etc.

  • Develops the annual operational budget including soliciting staff input on equipment needs. Monitors monthly financial reports and adjusts unit operations as needed to meet budget.

  • Responds to Patient Advocacy and Quality Review Issues per department procedure in a timely manner.
