Medical Assistant (MA-R and MA-A) Training Programs

Our Medical Assistant Training Programs offer unique opportunities to build excellent clinical skills in a real-world work environment. Participants receive opportunities in a variety of primary and specialty care areas.

Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) Training Program:

Our MA-R Training Program allows students enrolled in a Medical Assistant Certified program to gain on-the-job experience by working 1-2 shifts a week in a Kadlec Clinic. Students selected for the program receive an offer of employment at a Kadlec Clinic as a Medical Assistant Registered. Students receive a sign-on bonus of $3,000.

Eligibility:

  • Must be currently enrolled in active good standing in a Medical Assistant school (typically Charter or CBC)
  • Hold a GED or High School Diploma from an accredited educational institution
  • Successful completion of two medical assistant program classes /courses /modules
  • Hold an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be able to attend the entire new hire orientation, Epic training, and clinical orientation (one full week)

Ongoing:

To remain eligible in the program, students must meet the above criteria in addition to the following on a monthly basis:

  • Work a minimum of 8 hours per week (16 hours per pay period), with a maximum of 20 hours per week (40 hours per pay period) for Kadlec Clinic as a medical assistant registered
  • Meet/exceed the core values of Kadlec Clinic’s Guiding Principles
  • Maintain an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Medical Assistant Apprentice (MA-A) Training Program

Our MA-A Training Program is a 12-month program that pays caregivers to work in a clinic as Medical Assistant Apprentices while they go to school to obtain their Medical Assistant Certification in Washington. Tuition is covered by Providence, the parent organization of Kadlec. Cohorts open in Fall and Spring.

The program:

  • Is a registered apprenticeship program through the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
  • Is administered through the Washington Association for Community Health.
  • Trains students in the specific skills required to achieve the MA-Certified credential, as outlined in RCW Chapter 18.360 and WAC 246-827.
  • Curriculum is approved by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Medical Assistant Apprentice expectations:

  • Complete 2000 hours of on-the-job training (paid) with the support and guidance of an experienced one-on-one MA coach.
  • Complete 410 hours of supplemental, online coursework (unpaid).
  • Attend three in-person lab days with an expert instructor to practice and demonstrate mastery of hands-on technical skills. (Often at a location outside of the Tri Cities)
  • Log and report on-the-job hours and skill practices as required.
  • Signed Education Loan Program for MA-A students.
